Black-winged Kite
Elanus caeruleus
The Black-winged Kite is a ashy gray bird with black patches on the shoulder, conspicuous at rest as well as in flight. Seen in singles in fringes of the forest and in grassland hovering in the mid-air to scan the ground and drops down on prey. Food : Insects, mice and lizards.
The species traditionally thought to be was earlier considered in a same group of Elanus Axillaris which is called as Black-shouldered Kite; but it was separated on the basis of its morphology, plumage and behavior.
